P0202 – Injector Circuit Malfunction – Cylinder 2
What does P0202 mean?
The fuel injector control circuit for cylinder 2 has an electrical fault. As with P0201, this is a circuit-level code covering the injector solenoid, its wiring, and its connector.
What causes P0202?
Listed from most to least common:
- 1Failed injector solenoid
- 2Damaged or chafed wiring
- 3Corroded connector
- 4Voltage supply or ground fault
- 5ECM injector driver failure
Code breakdown
Common symptoms
- Check engine light on, often with P0302
- Rough idle and misfire
- Reduced power and hesitation
- Hard starting
- Worse fuel economy
How to diagnose
- 1Inspect connector and wiring at cylinder 2's injector.
- 2Measure injector resistance against specification.
- 3Confirm supply voltage at the injector connector.
- 4Verify ECM pulse using a noid light or oscilloscope.
- 5Swap injectors between cylinders to determine whether the fault follows the part.
Cylinder 2 may receive no fuel, producing a misfire that risks catalytic converter damage.
Common fixes and estimated costs
| Repair | Estimated cost |
|---|---|
| Repair wiring or connector | $100–$350 |
| Replace fuel injector | $150–$500 |
| Replace injector harness | $200–$600 |
Costs are rough US estimates including parts and labor. Actual pricing varies significantly by vehicle, region, and shop rates.
Good to know
On engines where injectors sit under the intake manifold, labor dominates the repair cost. If one injector has failed on a high-mileage engine, ask your shop whether replacing the full set while the manifold is off is more economical than repeating the job later.
