C0110 – ABS Pump Motor Circuit Malfunction
What does C0110 mean?
The ABS pump motor circuit has a malfunction. The pump motor generates the hydraulic pressure that lets the ABS system rapidly modulate brake pressure during an anti-lock stop. Without it, ABS cannot function.
What causes C0110?
Listed from most to least common:
- 1Failed ABS pump motor
- 2Blown high-current fuse for the pump
- 3Corroded or loose electrical connection at the ABS module
- 4Poor ground connection
- 5Failed pump relay
- 6Internal ABS module fault
- 7Low system voltage
Code breakdown
Common symptoms
- ABS warning light on
- Traction and stability control disabled
- No ABS pump noise during self-test at startup
- Brake pedal may feel normal but ABS does not engage when needed
How to diagnose
- 1Check the high-current ABS fuse first — it is the cheapest possible cause.
- 2Verify battery voltage and charging system health, since low voltage can trigger this code.
- 3Inspect the ABS module connector for corrosion and ensure it is fully seated.
- 4Check ground connections at the module.
- 5Command the pump motor on with a capable scan tool and listen for operation.
- 6Measure voltage at the pump motor circuit during the commanded test.
ABS and stability control will be disabled. Normal braking still works, but you lose anti-lock assistance in emergency stops. Have this diagnosed promptly.
Common fixes and estimated costs
| Repair | Estimated cost |
|---|---|
| Replace fuse | $10–$40 |
| Clean/repair connector or ground | $100–$400 |
| Replace pump relay | $80–$250 |
| Replace ABS module/pump assembly | $700–$2,000 |
Costs are rough US estimates including parts and labor. Actual pricing varies significantly by vehicle, region, and shop rates.
Good to know
Check the fuse and connector before accepting a quote for a full ABS module. On some vehicles the module can be rebuilt or the motor serviced separately, which is considerably cheaper than a new assembly — worth asking about.
